Command & Conquer: Red Alert has been one of the best PC gaming franchises since the mid-nineties with its combination of Cold War cartoon style aesthetics and action packed real-time strategy. The newest instalment, Red Alert 3, does not stray away from this reputation and has improved upon the games sound and graphics. In the demo, you complete three tutorial missions, as well as a mission for both NATO and the Soviets. This is more than enough for you to get an idea of if the full game is for you or not.
In Red Alert 3, the Allies go up against the Soviet Union, just as in the past editions, and include nuclear weapons and time travel. You will get to see a brief movie which will also introduce the main addition of Red Alert 3, a new faction: The Japanese inspired Empire of the Rising Sun, which in turn introduces a new force that players can use, or oppose, that are determined to rule the world.
Red Alert 3 utilizes the same new 3D effects and graphics that were debuted in the Tiberium Wars last year. However, with the exception of the graphics and some tweaking of the units and vehicles, Red Alert 3 isn’t much different to play than previous titles. Yes, the sound and graphics are much better, but the overall gameplay is basically exactly the same – but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing, from one of the most successful and well-loved series of all time.
Top contender for the best Red Alert title.
